Hey, Charming!
Bombolonis are trending these days.
Originating from the land which birthed us the pizza and spaghetti, Bomboloni is an Italian doughnut made from soft yeast dough, fried and rolled in sugar then filled with pastry cream filling.
A textbook Bomboloni (translated literally to mean 'big bomb') is light and fluffy in texture but packs a punch in flavour upon the first bite. Imagine a mini taste explosion going off in your mouth. How delightful!
Bombolonis are typically served for breakfast or as an afternoon snack/dessert alongside a Cappuccino.
Enter Michelle Young.

Michelle Young is no stranger to good reviews among the online community, especially for its Bombolonis. One reviewer recently expressed, "Went there to take away mini matcha cheesecake, pistachio, and tiramisu doughnuts. Taste absolutely delicious! Pistachio and tiramisu doughnuts were so good, not too sweet just nice."
Michelle Young rates 4 stars on Google Reviews.
Curious, I scheduled a trip to the place to find out what the buzz was all about. The cafe, located in Aurora Place, Bukit Jalil was definitely a stretch further away from my usual hangouts. Nevertheless, parking was free and easy to find.

Despite no dine-ins, I pictured the small space being a cozy and intimate spot for get-togethers or afternoon tea once situations permit
Michelle Young's Bombolonis come in four flavours - Pistachio, Nutella, Tiramisu, and Vanilla. I couldn't decide what to have, so I got them all, except the classic Vanilla. They cost a whopping RM12 each. There were other baked goods at the cafe like cakes and cookies so I picked up an additional Tiramisu Cake Box (RM 24) for my family.
Note: Make sure to consume your Bombolonis within 3 hours after purchase to ensure freshness.

No, I did not forget my coffee. Their Ice Lattes go for RM11 a cup though it wasn't much to shout about
The verdict?
The Tiramisu Bomboloni was my favourite with Pistachio coming in as a close runner-up. I loved how there was so much cream in both (it literally bursts open!) yet somehow it was still light and flavourful enough without being overly sweet. The dough was fried to crispy perfection and soft and fluffy on the insides. Excuse me while I wipe my drool.

What about the Nutella Bomboloni?
While I do like a good Nutella pastry, this one sadly didn't make it into my favourite list. The cream filling was not as light as the ones before. I guessed that it could be because of the inherent quality of Nutella. It was also sweeter compared to the rest. If you have a sweet tooth (I consider myself having a "saltier" palette), this may be just right for you.
And the Tiramisu Cake Box?
Well, this one blew my socks off. It was like the cherry on top of the cake.
Before digging into the cake, I was skeptical if anyone could even finish the whole thing by themselves. It was a sizeable box after all. But after tasting the cake, I quickly realized the error of my thoughts.
Like the Tiramisu Bomboloni from before, the Tiramisu Cake was light and flavourful. I loved that I could taste the bitterness from the coffee and cocoa powder while at the same time, the sweetness from the cream balances it out making this such a yummy treat!
Overall, Michelle Young's desserts were delightful and worth trying once if you are ever in the neighbourhood (the price is quite steep for second visits in all honesty). Just, maybe not get the coffee?
