Hey, Charming!
And welcome to my first, official blog post.
If you've been following me on social media, you'll know that I recently paid a visit to currently what's the town's most talked-about cafe, Dou Dou Bake.
Nestled in PJ’s Taman Rasa Sayang among the rows of link houses, Dou Dou Bake has been drawing in large crowds, old and young, to its humble abode since launching in July last month.
With so much buzz going on social media about this place, naturally, my interest was piqued.
I decided to do a little background research and to my pleasant surprise, I found out that this mini bakery/cafe was the brainchild collaboration between One Half's owner, Keith Koay, and Artisan Roastery's owner, Joey Mah.
Being a long-time fan of both One Half and Artisan, it was an absolute no brainer to do a review.

Before my visit to Dou Dou Bake, I was warned by close friends that I would need to make a reservation (it seems to be more of the norm nowadays, making reservations, since RMCO began) as it could get quite crowded.
Nevertheless, being me, I didn't take the warning to heart but "courageously" did a walk-in. Fortunately, it was a weekday so things were quieter. We only had to wait about 10 mins for a spot.
From the moment I entered the cafe, I was utterly smitten by its interior design. Unlike most local cafes that ride on the greenery theme, Dou Dou Bake took on a more minimalistic, modern outlook. Much Zen!

The cafe's colour palettes focused heavily on grey, white, and silver. There was a lot of attention given to making the space open-concept with sofa benches in the middle and tables and chairs by the side.

A wooden pathway that leads up to the cafe lined with reeds and other types of shrubs A.K.A. perfect spot for taking 'gram-worthy pictures.

Dou Dou Bake's cat mascot, super playful and friendly.
As usual, I went for my standard cup of latte, and a banana loaf and sea salted chocolate chip cookie for sharing. There were other pastries (i.e. croissants etc) available, but we weren't feeling like it.
I tend to go for lattes as my first pick because I use it as a benchmark for rating coffees at cafes. It also acts as a personal indicator of whether I should / could try something more fancy on the menu.

What did I think... honestly?
The coffee, as expected from Keith Koey, a three-time Malaysian Barista Champion, did not disappoint. The baked goods were delicious. The banana loaf was soft and fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness. The cookie was a whole other experience. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside just the way I liked it and wayyyy better than all of the Subway cookies I've had. However, I was a tad bit disappointed that the baked goods came cold as I was hoping they would have heated it up again for dine-ins.
Overall, I love the vibe and food/drinks at Dou Dou Bake. Without the crowds, this cafe is a great place to chill and to catch up with friends; a place I will no doubt revisit.
Rating: 4.8/5
That's it for today. Until next time! :)
